Roddy wins fur and feather match after venue switch

Roddy wins fur and feather match after venue switch

THE Asfordby and Melton Society of Anglers held their fur and feather match last Sunday on the Marina pool at Lakeview Fishery, writes Bren Southgate.

The weed growth and low water conditions made it impossible to use the traditional venue of Sysonby.

The cool blustery conditions on the day did not dampen the spirits of those who competed.

Roddy Hubbard took the day’s best catch of 20lb 12oz from peg 22 to claim first place

Pete Wade on peg 25 was second with 18lb 10oz. Rob Shuter took third place from peg 24 with 16lb 14oz. Mick West came fourth with 14lb 8oz from peg 2.

The prizes were chosen in order of catch weights with everyone taking a prize home.

Thanks to the society, Lakeview Fishery and all who donated for making the day a success.

At Lakeview Fishery the weights of catches have been lower as the water temperatures reach winter levels. But catches in the 50lb range are still being taken as Shaun Butler demonstrated in the Sunday open with a winning bag of 52lb.

Celtic Lakes at Frisby host the latest British Pike Angling Championship qualifier this Saturday, December 10, on the main sailing lake. The entrance fee is £20 paid out on the day with a place in the final. To enter ring Chay Jackson on 07791 104984.

In a prelude to this pike have been active through the week with fish of 18lb and 16lb 7oz recorded.

The River Wreake, which borders the pit, has seen chub, perch and roach beginning to show as the weed begins to die back.

Holwell Angling Club members fish the reservoir on Sunday, December 11, draw at 8am
