Heaux! Heaux! Heaux! Santa’s got some gifts to give BY DON SHOOPMAN, The Daily Iberian The Daily Iberian | 0 comments

Man, oh, man, it’s hard to believe it’s been a whole year since I’ve hitched up the old but reliable boat for another ride to the bayous just before Christmas.

It’s time for me to distribute special gifts to some outdoorsmen and outdoorswomen who have had an impact on my life and the Teche Area. For sure, Merry Christmas and happy New Year to everyone who hunts, fishes, bikes, boats, kayaks, canoes, shoots skeet, hikes, birdwatches, etc., in the heart and soul of the Sportsman’s Paradise.

I am in the process of losing some of my Santa belly ... but it isn’t a diet I’d recommend to friends and family. I’ll just say I can’t wait to sink my teeth into a hamburger or slice of pizza after Jan. 9.

I’ve still got the “heaux, heaux, heaux” part down cheerily, mostly because of all the good people I meet and whose lives are touched by stories and photos in  this special section of the newspaper.

Richard Berzas — Caring Christian Award for thoughtfulness and craftsmanship  with marble and plastic.

Dr. Roger Boughton — Best of luck to the TA&M Aggies in the Southeastern Conference. They’ll need it.

G.P. Bourg — Drags squealing and shotguns booming on saltwater fishing and duck hunting trips to your favorite places, like around Venice.

Aaron Breaux — If possible, an even bigger, better, Denise P. Breaux Memorial Redfish Derby in the summer of 2012. It is a gift that keeps on giving to the community, just like the fundraising event’s namesake.

Danny Bulliard — LSU Tigers fourteen-and-oh, baby, and champions of the Bowl Championship Series National Championship Game.

Dave Cavalier — Postseason runs by keeper Anna and sweeper Leah, higher PV heights for the two big Cs and an Easy Rider cycling outfit for another tour out-of-state.

Will Chapman — Super Bowl win for the New Orleans Saints and BCSNCG title for the LSU Tigers. Special for ’12: Speckled trout fishing trip in October/November. This is it!

Todd Citrano — A boat, motor and boat trailer, plus more Sundays off.

Mark Comeaux — As senior angler aboard the top Southcentral Fishing Association boat, another circuit like the last one.

Rod Decoux — Bass fishing tournament wins and brisk business at Outboard Repair Service.

Denis delaHoussaye — Big buck in your scope the next time out, and the next time, and the next time, and so on.

Alyx Frederick — Enough redfish bites to lead your boat in Southcentral Fishing Association contests in ’12, just like ’11.

Doug Gaspard — High traffic flow into Dago’s Mobil & Grocery and no more natural calamities that close key bridges, etc.

Jackie Gross  — More votes than anyone else to become Extreme Huntress 2012. Good luck (voting at tahoefilms.com ends Jan. 1).

Steven Hadaway — Limits of bass, speckled trout and redfish and a boat to go get ’em. Plus, six deer this season.

Lisa Hebert — Prep state playoff appearance for up-and-coming Tee and the Lady Jackets and a state championship for the ISA Nighthawks.

Chester Huval — All the red-hot artificial lures on the business end of your line around here and at Toledo Bend.

Elvis Jeanminette — An even higher finish for Iberia B.A.S.S. at the 2012 Louisiana Top Six tournament, record-breaking Top Rod Big Bass Classic and more postal recognition for the charitable work you do in the community.

Felix Jeanminette — Blessed holiday season for you and your family.

Chris Landry — This BCSNCG score on Jan. 9: LSU 24, Alabama 20.

Lynn L. Landry — No more holes drilled in the boat’s hull, breathtaking photo ops and success in local bass fishing contests here and at your favorite lake. Here’s to your health, Mr. Lynn.

Matt Landry — Increase in the success enjoyed the first two years of the Southcentral Fishing Association.

David Lasczcak — Solution to flood prevention in your community, ducks ducking into the decoys and limits of speckled trout and redfish on each trip.

Bud Lee — Ducks winging in to cover your decoys on every trip and sincere thanks for all you do in the community.

Holly Leleux-Thubron — Golden Humanitarian Award. Why? Three hundred reasons. May angels be on the shoulders of you and yours.

Tommy Lipari — Another winning youth baseball team and beau coup bass every time out.

Blake Miguez — More pistol shooting titles to go with your recently earned world championship.

Brandon Moss — A deer like that giant recently killed in Mississippi and continued SFA success.

Stefan Norris — Regular deliveries of fish filets and a Nighthawks’ run all the way to the State Cup title.

Mike O’Brien — Play it again … Lipari Outdoor Adventures Hawg Fight team title with Paul Resweber.

Huey Olivier — Good health and even better speckled trout fishing next year.

Carol Perez — A blessed Merry Christmas and new year for you and yours.

David Perez — More speckled trout filets and a long postseason run for NISH’s Energizer Bunny, Kelley.

Tommy Pollard — Secretary to handle all the beagle business, plus major titles for your great dogs.

Keith Price — Doiron’s Team Bass Challenge title, just like 2011.

Dusty Rhodes — At least one more big game hunting trip to the scenic Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Alan Rini — Peace and happiness throughout the new year, plus some good fishin’ trips with Santa.

Dr. Stephen Ritter — Another Dog of the Year honor for Bayou Teche Mia.

Peter Romero — Even more boats in the next Louisiana Bass Cats Open, as well as more photos of your sons with Kevin Van Dam at the next Bassmaster Classic.

Todd Semar — Booming Bulls-Eye Charters business and top finishes in the Southcentral Fishing Association.

Jacob Shoopman — JJ MVP of the BCSNCG, a year’s supply of your favorite Tsunamis, bass around every stump waiting to bust your crank bait and a K.C. Royals run all the way to the World Series.

Joshua Shoopman — Bigger, better replacement television, new, secure apartment and all kinds of fun, wacky happenings for a happy-go-lucky young man in Atlanta.

June Shoopman — Pain-free shoulder, another “cash cow” experience in Biloxi, Miss., free grooming for the dogs and that elusive (at least this year) trip to the beautiful “Black Forest.”

Mike Sinitiere — Prop that makes your boat go-go-go, whatever speckled trout lures are being thrown by Jacob and Todd and a payday each time out on the Doiron’s Team Bass Challenge Circuit with Brook Morrison.

Walter Voorhies — Speckled trout and redfish on the business end of your line whenever you go. Enjoy.

Jean Williams — More water in Spanish Lake.

Jeff Zeringue — As your email subject line read Oct. 21, “redfish mania” on those occasions you target the duck ponds down south armed with a flyrod to fool those redfish.
