Rapala has announced new details to its US fanbase of five new lures for 2012, including the new X-Rap Pop and X-Rap Prop. The lures were first unveiled to the trade at ICAST in July; now Rapala is cranking up excitement amongst topwater bass anglers ahead of the holiday selling season with breathless descriptions of the lures’ fish catching abilities. The two lures, says Rapala, will ‘deliver topwater mayhem to Rapala thrillseekers’. Dealers yet to be introduced to the lures can read exactly what makes them special by clicking here, while here is confirmation that Rapala is currently the US‘s most popular hard lure brand. For those brands looking to challenge that assumption – and make a mark throughout the rest of the world too, note that Angling International is now taking bookings for the January Lures Special Issue. New Study Underscores the Economic Value of Outdoor Resources and Recreation

By Kirk Deeter

Economic Value StudyIf you're paying attention to political commentary in advance of the 2012 U.S. Presidential election, you're bound to notice certain politicos encouraging things like more domestic energy production, more development, and loosened environmental protections. It's as if conservation of wetlands, forests, rivers, and lakes is seen as a "luxury" that the nation cannot afford, especially in challenging economic times.

But the truth is that the outdoors is... Continue reading on AnglingTrade.com

CTU Amps Efforts to Save the Upper Colorado and Fraser

Save the Upper Colorado and FraserColorado Trout Unlimited is spearheading a significant public relations campaign to protect the Upper Colorado River and Fraser River. See www.DefendtheColorado.org.

The issue at hand is that as much as 80 percent of the water from these rivers could be siphoned off and pumped away to water lawns in Colorado's Front Range and metro Denver region. The ramifications on the fisheries are clearly negative. It's an issue that has impact reaching far beyond that part of Colorado, as it pertains to public priorities in managing water resources, and could help shape future programs as well.... LinkedIn...

Did you know that Angling Trade is facilitating a fly fishing retailer forum through LinkedIn? This is where retailers talk to retailers about specific issues and ideas. Want to talk about buying groups? This is a place to start. Need the skinny on a travel destination? Ask here. Want to heap kudos (or something else) on your favorite sales rep? Do it here.

Angling Trade Magazine, LLC on LinkedIn

All we ask is that the conversations center on fly fishing business... you dictate the rest of the agenda.

Pro Guide Direct: Empowering Gatekeeper Guides, or Instigating Turf Wars?

One of the liveliest conversations we've seen on the Angling Trade retailer-only LinkedIn forum revolves around Pro Guide Direct, a new program designed to give guides referral royalties on fly fishing product. Some guides love it. Some shop owners hate it. Some manufacturers have embraced it, and others won't touch it. Is it a wedge or an opportunity? You tell us. Angling Trade is gathering fodder for a detailed feature on this topic, and we invite all input and comments.
