Salmo Fishings Islamouth information: The Islamouth beat is perhaps the most famous beat on the Tay. It is a double bank beat commencing at the Kinclaven Road Bridge and extending for approximately 1.15 miles downstream to the old railway bridge at Cargill. The River Isla enters the Tay a short distance downstream from the Kinclaven Bridge right in the midst of the beat. The River Isla and is the most prolific tributary of the Tay with big runs of fish heading for it right from the spring through to the autumn. Usually these fish halt for a while before entering the Isla making Islamouth one of the most famous hotspots in the salmon angling world. The water itself is ideal for flyfishing and it has been described as a fly-fisher's paradise. Fly-fishing is the only method permitted unless the river is particularly high. There are over a dozen named pools on the beat and most are easily waded. Fishing can be excellent at any time, especially from April to the end of the season. In April and May it is one of the surest beats to catch a springer and in July especially thrilling sport is provided by the grilse. But if bigger fish are sought then September and October can provide both numbers and size.Anglers are looked after by two experienced and knowledgeable ghillies with two boats who advise and assist when required and are happy to accommodate both skilled and unskilled anglers alike. There is a roomy and secure boathouse with full facilities where lunch can be taken.Fishing is only available on the full beat for three days of the week, Monday to Wednesday, but the upper part of the beat, Upper Islamouth, is still available with the House Beat from Thursday to Saturday. As Upper Islamouth still includes the junction with the Isla it can still offer excellent sport. | | | | | | | www.salmofishings.com | |
