Congratulations to Conor Mountaine on winning the Galway Bay SAC 2011 shore species hunt with 31 species!
Following the success of last year’s species hunt, in what was a laid back and fun element to the angling year, we are looking forward to repeating the big hunt this year. The rules are simple: You have your species card, simply write your name clearly on the card beside the club crest, when you catch a fish, place the card beside the fish and take a photograph. You then send the photo with a brief note stating the type of fish caught to the club email address, or you can text the photo from your mobile to Pete Atkins (Mob: 087 9538750). It will then be uploaded to the club website. You’ll be surprised how addictive this form of angling can be! Best of luck to all who take up the challenge. We plan to use the club outings to increase member’s species total in the species hunt.

With the hope of improving the number of club outings held each year, each committee member has been asked to organize an outing. The club hope to hold one event (outing/competition) each month. Our first outing is planned for the weekend of 21th/22th January. We hope to have our outings within the boundaries of Ballyrean in Co. Clare to Clifden in Co. Galway. We hope these outings will include workshops and one on one coaching.

Thankfully 2012 will be a big year for the club on the competition front. The first competition will take place in February when we will host the first leg of the West Coast Shore league. Following that in April, we are honoured to be hosting the qualifier for the Irish World Shore Team and finally in November we host the All Ireland Open Shore Championships.
We have a new format this year for the Club Master Angler. It will now consist of nine legs, eight of these will be from the West Coast Shore League and the ninth will be the All Ireland Open (The Jimmy Smith). The winner will have the highest score from the best seven legs. The one condition is you have to include Galway Bay’s Leg of the Shore League and the Jimmy Smith in your best seven legs.
