We would like to wish you all a Happy New Year and at the time of writing the weather has taken an unseasonable upturn so we hope that you are able to take advantage of it and test any new items of tackle.

With the winter traditionally a season for predator angling, Alan Dudhill of the Pike Angling Club of Great Britain has been in touch and would like us to pass on details of the organisation.

The PAC have been campaigning on environmental issues, safe handling and conservation of pike as well as passing on tips.

The cost of an annual membership is £22.50, with a family membership which caters for two adults and two children carrying a very reasonable fee of £27.50.

Student, elderly, disabled or unemployed memberships are priced at £17 and the junior season membership costs £7.50, with Notts regional junior members receiving £11 worth of Piketrace tackle including stainless steel forceps, one spinning trace, two snap tackles and two floats.

The next Notts regional meeting is on 10th January at the Venue, formerly known as the Potters, Rainworth with a 7.30pm start where the guest speaker will be Nev Fickling.

The next pike fishing teach-in will be on Sunday 15th January at Butterly reservoir in Derbyshire. For further information you can contact Alan on 07815 308463.

He also recommends Bob Roberts’ website www.bobonline.co.uk for up to the minute reports and techniques etc.

Looking ahead to the long hot summer, we are hoping to run a couple of boat trips if we can generate enough interest.

With a change of tack from the Holderness coast we are looking to south of the Wash and Great Yarmouth which is a venue that is completely virgin territory to a lot of local anglers.

The boat is the renowned Sea Quest and to ensure comfortable fishing for all, numbers will be limited to eight per trip, with hopefully one midweek trip and one Saturday trip which will be held mid June.

Three places have all ready been reserved leaving only five available for the proposed Saturday trip, the plan is to fish both wreck and reef for cod, ling and pollock.

The cost will be £30 for either trip but full payment will be required when confirming booking, for more information you can contact Roger on the above number or email.
