Published on Monday 8 October 2012 06:11WITH a fine bag of trout, fishing using fly and spinner, Brian Bigmore took first place in the Heron Bros.Ltd Cup competition staged by Moyola Angling Club.Second was Stanley Aspinall, bait fishing, and in third Rusty Steele, who landed the heaviest brown trout of the season to date.
This weighed 1lb 8ozs and with just one competition to go, that trout will surely prove very hard to beat! The best junior on the day was Luke Stockman with a good trout of 13ozs and second was Joseph Spiers with a similar fish, this one at 9ozs.
Last competition of the season will be for the Gerald McLarnon Memorial Cup which takes place from 10.30am on Saturday, October 13. The Gerald Weir trophy for the heaviest brown trout and the Robin McKnight award for the heaviest dollaghan, are still up for grabs. Therefore,it is hoped for a good turnout on this final occasion.
Meanwhile, well done to visiting anglers Andrew and Sue Gibson who fished the Moyola River for some four days with the latter catching a lovely trout weighing an estimated 1lb 8ozs.
